Frederick Charles Cann died at his home at Pendeen, Cornwall, on April 16th, 1937, at the age of 58.
After attending mining classes at Camborne and Redruth, he went, in 1897, to the Transvaal, where he was employed by the Lancaster Gold Mining Co. and the Windsor Gold Mining Co.
In December, 1899, he left South Africa for Kalgoorlie, and in 1901 he went to the Gold Coast, where he spent two years with Effuenta (Wassaw) Mines, Ltd., and Appankran Consolidated Mines.
In November, 1904, he returned to the Transvaal to take charge of shaft-sinking and timbering at the Consolidated Main Reef mine.
In 1907 he was appointed assistant manager of Wheal Racu, Ltd., Cornwall, and in 1908 occupied a similar position with Falmouth Consolidated Mines, Ltd. From 1909 to 1917 he was with the St. Ives Consolidated Mines, Ltd. as manager and general manager, his duties also including supervision of the Cornish properties of the British Radium Corporation, Ltd. In 1917 he went to Queensland, but returned to Cornwall at the end of the following year, and in 1920 became manager of the Geevor Mine, a position which he retained until his death.
Mr. Cann was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1913, and was transferred to Membership in 1918.
