Edward J. Castle, K.C., died in May, 1912, at the age of 70.
He was educated at King’s College and Woolwich, and received a commission in the Royal Engineers in 1860, in which corps he served in the West Indies. He retired from the service in 1867, and was called to the Bar in the following year, going on the Western Circuit.
Mr. Castle was appointed Recorder of Winchester in 1888, and held that position until 1897, when he accepted the Recordership of Bristol, which office he retained until his decease.
Mr. Castle acted as Honorary Counsel to the Institution from its inception in 1892, and was elected an Honorary Member of the Institution in 1895.
