Augustus Frederick Crosse died on May 9th, 1914, aged 57 years.
His first professional engagement was as underground manager of the French Diamond Mining Co., at Kimberley, during the period from 1880 to 1888. In the latter year he was appointed consulting engineer to Mr. O. Staib, of Stuttgart, Germany, leaving Europe in 1891 to become manager of the Wolhuter and Meyer & Charlton gold mines, at Johannesburg. From 1893 to 1895 he was consulting engineer to Messrs. J. Berlein & Co., a firm which afterwards became the Transvaal Goldfields, Ltd. From 1895 to 1897 he was a director and the manager of the West Rand Mines, Krugersdorp, and subsequent to that period he was engaged in professional work in India, Spain and South Africa until within a short time prior to his death, which occurred at Johannesburg.
Mr. Crosse was elected a Member of the Institution in 1897.
