Angus H. Campbell died towards the close of 1918, aged 34 years.
In his youth, without undergoing any regular course of technical training through the usual channels, he taught himself assaying, surveying and book-keeping so efficiently that he was able to take up work of a responsible nature.
At the age of 27 he went to South America to join the staff of the Mining Exploration Co., Ltd., and was placed in charge of that company’s La Choicas Mine, situated on the western boundary of the republic of Argentina, at the same time doing assaying, surveying, accountancy and generally superintending the other mines belonging to the group.
He was at home on the outbreak of the Great War, and in 1915 obtained his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. On May 31st, 1916, he was awarded the Military Cross. In the middle Of 1917, he was transferred to H.M. Factory at Pembrey, Carmarthenshire.
Mr. Campbell was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1909.
