Trevor Russell Benson died in Sydney, New South Wales, on June 26th, 1940, following an operation, at the age of 48.
For upwards of twenty years from 1907 he was in the service of the United National Collieries in South Wales; starting as a surveying pupil and eventually reaching the position of manager of various collieries comprised in the company.
In 1927, he resigned that position and went to India as underground agent at the Mysore Gold Mine, until 1931, when he went to West Africa, where he was employed on the Taquah and Abosso and the Ariston gold mines. In 1933, he was appointed mine manager at the Tiebaghi chrome ore mines in New Caledonia, and he remained there until severe internal trouble made it necessary to visit Australia to undergo an operation.
Mr. Benson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1928, and was transferred to Membership in 1937.
