Sheddan Thomson Brugh died on 15 September, 1965. He was 90 years of age.
Mr. Brugh was educated at the University of New Zealand, gaining the degree of B.Sc. in 1896. In the previous year he had been awarded the Associateship of Otago School of Mines.
In 1897 he joined Queensland Smelting Co., as chief chemist and assayer, two years later being promoted to the post of chief metallurgist and works manager. In 1902 he became chief chemist and assayer of Straits Trading Co. Singapore, shortly afterwards being appointed manager of the company’s smelting works. He remained in that position until 1922 and then came to the United Kingdom. From 1929 to 1931 he was technical manager, Penpold Tin Smelting Works, Liverpool, and several years later worked for a short period in Japan.
Mr. Brugh was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1901 and was transferred to full Membership in 1910.
