Noel Barber died on June 8th, 1933, at Takoradi, Gold Coast Colony, at the age of 47.
He entered the Camborne School of Mines in 1902 and graduated in 1905, and on completion of his course went to the United States, where he was employed on several mines during the next two years.
In 1907 he transferred his activities to Mexico, working respectively with the El Oro Mining & Railway Co., the Cia. Tiro General, the Luriana Mining & Smelting Co., and the Trinidad Mining & Smelting Co., of which last-named he was manager. In 1913 he was appointed underground manager of Prestea Block ‘A’, Gold Coast Colony.
After serving from 1915 to 1918 in the 181st Tunnelling Co., R.E., in France, where he attained the rank of Captain, he returned to the Gold Coast, first to Prestea, afterwards occupying the position of managing director of the General Engineering and Construction Co.
Captain Barber was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1918 and was transferred to Membership in 1921.
