Kimpton McIntosh Barrance died at Marlborough, New Zealand, on January 28th, 1934, at the age of 55.
He entered the Thames School of Mines, New Zealand, in July, 1895, and passed the full course, and in April, 1898, entered the New Zealand University, part of his time being occupied as lecturer on chemistry and assaying at Waihi and Thames School of Mines.
In January, 1903, he went to Western Australia and was employed nearly two years on the Lake View Consols mine, returning to New Zealand he worked as mine surveyor and sampler on the Talisman Consolidated mine at Karangahake until August, 1914. He was then appointed manager of the Ross Goldfields, Ltd., on the West Coast, and in May, 1916, he joined H.M. Forces and held a commission in the New Zealand Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers.
After demobilization, he returned to New Zealand to take up the post of assistant engineer for metalliferous mining, Mines Department, Wellington. In April, 1921, he was appointed engineer in charge of a water supply tunnel for the Wellington City Corporation, and subsequently he was in charge of the Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd., at Marlborough, which post he held until his death.
Mr. Barrance was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1910 and was transferred to Membership in 1923.
