Harold Reade Braid died suddenly on May 16th, 1918, aged 51 years.
He studied mechanical engineering at the Crystal Palace School, and electricity at the School of Electrical Engineering in Hanover Square, W., and then spent three years as assistant to Mr. Sherard Cowper-Coles, when he was engaged principally on experimental work in connection with the electro-deposition of zinc.
From 1895 to 1897 he was in South Africa, acting as electrician to the Village Main Reef Gold Mining Company, after which he returned to England and rendered Mr. Cowper-Coles further assistance in his investigations on the electro-deposition of metals. Subsequently he became electrical engineer and manager to the Cowper-Coles Galvanizing Syndicate in Victoria Street, S.W.
In 1908 he went to the United States, and for the next three years held two posts in California as electrician. Mr. Braid then joined Mr. Cowper-Coles for a further two years, and was employed on experimental work of a varied and intricate nature; and afterwards took a course of study in assaying under Mr. G.T. Holloway. From 1908 to 1911 he held posts in Los Angeles and San Bernardino in California, and then returned to England and resided near his work in London during the remainder of his life.
Mr. Braid was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1908.
