Frederick Barrowcliffe died at Nottingham on February 16th, 1917. He was about 45 years of age.
He was engaged in gold mining on the Rand for ten years, from 1889 to 1899, and held the following positions: amalgamator for two years and foreman for four years to the Simmer and Jack Gold Mining Co.; mill manager for two years to the Glencairn Gold Mining Co.; foreman and mill manager for two years to the New Comet Gold Mining Co.
After the outbreak of the South African war, Mr. Barrowcliffe went to Sumatra, and for 14 years was mill manager at the Redjang Lebong Mine, Benkoelen. He returned to England in October, 1914, and early in the following year accepted an appointment with the Prestea Block A, Ltd., Gold Coast, West Africa, which he held for about 14 months.
He came home in the spring of 1916, and resided in Nottingham during the last nine months of his life.
Mr. Barrowcliffe was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1905.
