Ernest Henry Brandt died on July 6th, 1913, after a long and serious illness, at the age of 45.
He was educated at the Clausthal School of Mines, Harz, the Zurich Polytechnic (Engineering Department), and the German Royal School of Mines, Freiberg, Saxony.
From 1890 to 1892 he was surveyor an assayer to a company in Transylvania. Thence he transferred his energies to the United States for a number of years, first as manager of the State Creek Mining Co., California, then from 1894 to 1896 in the same capacity to the Pelatan and Clerici Works, Denver, Col., and for a year as manager of the California Exploration Co. In 1897 he was appointed mine and mill manager of the Carson Creek Mining Co., California, and in 1899 he took up the position of assistant reporting engineer to Messrs. Mein & Rosenfelt of San Francisco.
From 1901 to 1903 he was engaged on reporting work in the Nome District, Alaska and in Mexico, and in the latter year he returned to England to occupy the post of assistant constructing engineer to the Underground Electric Railways in London.
From 1907 onwards he was a partner in the firm of Bainbridge, Seymour & Co., in which capacity he continued until a serious breakdown in health, from which he did not recover, necessitated his retirement.
Mr. Brandt was elected a Member of the Institution in 1910.
