Edwin Gripper Banks died on 23rd July, 1952, in Melbourne, Australia. He was over 80 years of age.
Mr. Banks was born in New Zealand and in 1889 began an uninterrupted association with the Waihi Gold Mining Co., Ltd., Auckland. He was for eight years head assayer and metallurgist and in 1914 became mine superintendent. He was also consulting metallurgist to the Waitekauri Gold Mining Co., Ltd., and Union Waihi Gold Mining Co., Ltd.
On his retirement in 1930 Mr. Banks moved to Australia and at the time of his death was resident in Melbourne.
Mr. Banks was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1897, and was transferred to Membership in 1904. He was a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and had served on the Council of that Institute for some years.
