Formerly known as Wheal Amelia, the area was worked by tinners as early as the 17th century.
The engine house, on Baronet’s Engine Shaft, formerly housed a 50-inch pumping engine and has seen some restoration
By 1839 it was known as a producer of copper and continued this way until its closure in 1874, due to the fall in the price of copper, in 1866.
Between 1880 and 1881 the mine was reworked under the name of East Buller.
