Cwmllynfell, Swansea Valley

This mine was opened in c1923 when ten men were employed on development by the Nantgwyn Anthracite Colliery Limited. In 1924 it
employed 15 men and in 1927 it was owned by the Nantgwyn Anthracite Colliery (1927) Limited when it employed 161 men with the manager being D.D. Jones. In 1930 it employed 140 men working underground and 60 men working at the surface of the mine and produced 70,000 tons of
coal. In 1932 it employed 250 men, in 1933 it employed 207 men and in 1934 it employed 41 men on the surface and 150 men underground
working the Lower and Middle Veins. The manager then was D.D. Jones. At that time it was in the hands of the receiver, A. Goskar of Cornhill Chambers, Christiana Street, Swansea.

The Colliery Guardian of July 1935 reported that the main slant had been sealed and the colliery closed by the receiver with the loss of 180 jobs.
