Shaft
Served Hindley Deep Pits group and Ladies Lane Pits, situated north and south respectively of the L&YR Bolton-Wigan line west of Hindley station.Pumping
Bull-type pumping engine installed 1863 (by Kirkless Hall Coal & Iron Co., predecessors of WC&ICo.Ltd.)

Larger engine installed October 1875. Delivered approx. 50 gallons per stroke working at 7spm.

Replaced by underground steam pump 1888, steam cylinder 30 inches x 24 inches stroke, double acting 11¾ inches plunger. Delivered 335gpm. at 850 feet head working at 29spm. (Bull engine appears to have been retained as standby.)

Supplemented by smaller underground pumps at Ladies Lane Nos.1 & 4 Pits, also winding water at Ladies Lane No.2 Pit and Hindley Deep Pit.

CLOSURE
Hindley Deep Pits ceased c.1891. Last of the Hindley collieries.
Ladies Lane ceased operations in 1908.
