The Dunkirk Coal Company’s Chapel pit, at Dunkirk Colliery in Dunkinfield, was served by a coal wharf at Chapel basin on the Peak Forest Canal. The pit worked from before 1854 until the second half of the 1880s, and then appears to have been closed until 1896 when the Dukinfield Coal & Cannel Co. Ltd re-opened it to work the Roger and Sod Mines.
The Dukinfield Collieries Ltd took over in 1898 and closed Chapel Pit during 1901.
