Bellfield Colliery Shaft Accident – Rochdale – 1854

BELLFIELD. Rochdale, Lancashire. 11th. November, 1854.

The colliery was owned by John Knowles and Co. and three men and four boys were killed when a link in the coupling chain at the end of the shaft rope broke and they fell down the shaft.
