Washington Colliery Explosion – Washington – 1798

WASHINGTON. Washington, Durham. 27th.  February, 1798.

A steam engine, built by William Brown, who was the engineer at Throckley Colliery, was installed in 1775. The colliery was reported to have exploded with the loss of seven lives.
