South Shields Colliery Shaft Accident – South Shields – 1817

SOUTH SHIELDS. South Shields, Durham. 31st May, 1817.

The colliery was at the high end of South Shields. A corfe in which five men where descending, was caught by one of the lining boards. It was upset and they were all sent down the shaft to their deaths.
