- Chas. McSherry, drawer, aged 15
- Jas. Menzies, drawer, aged 15
- Jas. Lennon, driver, aged 17
- Henry Graham, miner, aged 22
- Hugh Ramsay, waterman, aged 19
- Alexander Clark, drawer, aged 16
It was caused by an inrush of water into the workings near the surface during the night.
