ACCIDENT AT PARR.
There was an explosion of firedamp at Stanley Colliery in which William Leyland was severely burnt while he was working with a naked light against the colliery rules. He was working in front of a partition which fell down allowing some gas at the back to come into contact with his naked light and explode. (Wigan Observer)
