A number of pages have just been published on the Leicestershire coalfield, with in depth information on over 75% of the NCB collieries there.
The information has come from the Geoff Hayes collection in NMRS records, and is similar to that for the Wigan coalfield, which was published a couple of years ago.
The photograph shows the No.2 Shaft winding engine at Donisthorpe Colliery, 24in x 48in built by Jessop of Leicester and rebuilt with piston valve cylinders by Worsley Mesnes Ironworks, Wigan. Showing also the Melling’s pneumatic overwind/overspeed controller and the Melling’s brake engine.
