Near Tredegar, Sirhowy Valley (15710750)

This was a series of levels into the Brithdir seam that was possibly opened in c1865 (when the village was constructed) by the Tredegar Iron and Coal Company Limited and employed only one man in 1900. It employed 53 men working underground and 10 men at the surface in 1907, 67 men underground and 8 men on the surface in 1908 when managed by G.E. Golding, 68 men in 1913 when still managed by G.E. Golding and 53 men in 1918, 56 men in 1919 and 59 men in 1920 when it was still managed by G.E. Golding. In 1923 it employed 84 men while in 1927 the manager was E. Rees and it employed 82 men. It was worked on the double stall method which gave total coal extraction. It was closed in the late 1920s.
