Ystradgynlais, Swansea Valley

This anthracite mine consisted of the Nos. 1,2 and 3 slants and was owned by the Swansea Vale Anthracite Colliery Company and then the Ystrad Dulais Anthracite Collieries Limited which was absorbed into the Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries Limited. In 1929 it employed 80 men, in 1932 it employed 80 men and in 1933 the No.3 slant employed 17 men and in 1935 it employed 12 men working on the surface of the mine and 40 men underground producing 50,000 tons of coal from the Red Vein. The manager at that time was J.F. Bell.

It was not worked by the National Coal Board.

 

YSTRAD DULAIS COLLIERY
Ystradgynlais, Swansea Valley

This mine was opened in c1933 by the Swansea Vale Anthracite Collieries Limited of Ystradgynlais. By 1935 it was employing 6 men working on the surface of the mine and 75 men working underground producing 40,000 tons of coal from the Rock Vein seam. The manager at that time was
J.F. Bell.

It was not worked by the National Coal Board.
