Rhos Amman Colliery

This was a small anthracite slant owned by the Rhos Amman Colliery Company Limited at the beginning of the 20th Century. It abandoned the Middle Seam in October 1923 and the Bryn Seam in September 1925. This company was a member of the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association.

It employed 82 men in 1913, 115 men in 1915/6, 99 men underground and 33 men on the surface in 1918 and 117 men in 1919. In 1923 it produced 24,000 tons of coal and employed 138 men, it employed 135 men in 1925 and in 1927 it employed 135 men. The manager during this time was R.E. Rees. It was not listed in 1930.

On the 23rd of July 1913, Evan George Morris, Aged 31 years and a collier died under a fall of roof at the face of a narrow road as he was trimming the rib. The fall came away from a slip in the roof over the coal rib. His spine was fractured.
