George Alfred Wright died at sea off the coast of Borneo on September 1st, 1913.
In 1879 he was articled to a firm of general engineers, and was subsequently engaged in general engineering, mining and metallurgical work. In 1890 he went to the Transvaal, where he was employed in responsible positions at the Langlaagte Estate, Worcester, and Crown Reef gold mines. For two years he was engaged as mining engineer at the Fern Creek mine, Mashonaland, and for a similar period as general manager of the Dickens, Cambrian and Cleveland mines, Rhodesia.
In 1897 he left South Africa to take up the position as mining engineer and general manager for the Redjang Lebong gold mines, Sumatra. After spending a number of years on those mine’s, he was engaged in Celebes for a considerable period with M.M. Totok, and latterly, up to the time of his death, he was in practice as a consulting mining engineer.
Mr. Wright was elected a Member of the Institution in 1898.
