Leslie Ballesat Williams died at Darley Dale, Derbyshire; on January 29th, 1942, at the age of 63.
An Australian by birth, he spent the first forty-six years of his life in the Commonwealth. He received his technical education at the University of Sydney, from 1896 to 1902, and obtained the degrees of B.A. and B.Eng. (Mining and Metallurgy). On conclusion of his course, he was employed for about five years in various capacities on the Mount Garnet Copper and Silver Mines, and the Sons of Gwalia and the Great Fingall Consolidated Gold Mines.
In February, 1907, he joined the staff of Messrs. Bewick, Moreing & Co., as field engineer and inspecting engineer at Kalgoorlie; as field engineer with Oroya Brownhill and Oroya Exploration Companies and the Lake View and Oroya Exploration Co., and later as superintendent of the Queen of the Hills Gold Mine. For five years from 1917 he was in charge of Yuanmi Gold Mines, Ltd.
In 1923 he came to England to become associated with the Mill Close Mine at Darley Dale, Derbyshire, of which he was general manager until it was finally closed down.
Mr. Williams was elected a Member of the Institution in 1916.
