David John Williams died at Bangor, North Wales, on December 15th, 1934, at the age of 61.
From 1887 to 1889 he was at student at the University College of North Wales, Bangor, and thence to 1893 was at the Royal College of Science, London. In 1895 he went to South Africa, to work under the late Charles Butters as chemist and metallurgist to the Rand Central Ore Reduction Co., Ltd. He then became successively chief assayer at the Rose Deep Mine, sampler to the Rand Mines, Ltd., and, in 1902, consulting engineer to the African Claims and Land Co., Ltd.
In 1908 he returned to Wales as manager to the Bettws Gannon Iron Ore Co., Ltd., and in 1910 he was appointed mining valuer for North Wales under the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, with offices at Carnarvon and subsequently at Bangor, and held this position until his death.
Mr. Williams was elected a Member of the Institution in 1911.
