Henry Lionel Whittaker died on September 30th, 1911, at the age of 40.
He was born at St. Peter’s Port, Guernsey, and from 1888 to 1895 was occupied in gold mining on the Rand and in other parts of Africa, subsequently spending a few months on the Indian goldfields. In 1895 he was for six months engaged in mining work in the Gold Coast Colony, but had to resign his appointment on account of ill-health. From 1896 to 1900 he acted as reduction officer at the Onro Preto Gold Mine, Brazil.
His later appointments included posts at Laramie, Wyoming, and three separate engagements on the Gold Coast, West Africa. It was while returning from his last position with the Tarkwa Trading Co. that his death occurred at sea.
Mr. Whittaker was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1895, and was transferred to Membership in 1901.
