Patrick Alfred Westcott died in Liverpool, on October 20th, 1925.
He was born in New Zealand, where he received his technical training. His first engagement was in 1899, with a private gold-dredging company working in the neighbourhood of Otago, but he gave up this employment early in 1900 to join Thorneycroft’s Mounted Infantry for service in the Boer War. Returning to New Zealand in 1901, he was employed for nearly four years by the Golden Gate Gold Dredging Co., of Otago.
At the close of 1905 he went to West Africa, where he was occupied for five years in gold dredging for the Ashanti Goldfields Auxiliary, afterwards known as the Ashanti Rivers & Concessions, Ltd., and for nearly six years following was similarly engaged with the Offin River Gold Estates, Ltd.
In January, 1917, he enlisted in the Inns of Court O.T.O., and was subsequently gazetted as temporary lieutenant in the R.E. He served in H.M. Forces for two and a-half years, and in November, 1920, returned to West Africa. For two years he was engaged on a private venture of repairing dredges, but in December, 1922, he joined the staff of the Naraguta (Nigeria) Tin Mines, Ltd., as assistant to the general manager, and afterwards as manager at Sho, and of the Korot Areas.
Mr. Westcott was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1925.
