Charles George Warnford-Lock died in Ceylon on July 30th, 1909.
Born in Hampshire in 1853, he was educated at Cranleigh and entered upon his first professional engagement at the Sulphur Mines of Iceland. He was afterwards engaged in alluvial mining in Hungary, and as Mines Manager in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In 1896, he was appointed General Manager of the Wentworth Gold Mines in New South Wales, which position he held for several years.
He was also Manager of various mines in Rhodesia, and practised as a Consulting Mining Engineer in Sydney, New South Wales. For some years he held the position of Manager of the Raub Mines in the Federated Malay States, where he also examined and reported on various properties. Mr. Warnford-Lock was the author of several important works on mining and ore-dressing, his latest work, ‘Mining in Malaya for Gold and Tin’, being published in 1907. He also contributed several papers to the Transactions of the Institution, volume viii of which he edited jointly with Mr. Arthur Claudet.
Mr. Warnford-Lock was an original Member of the Institution, and was an active Member of Council for several years.
