George Paton Walsh died in London, on January 22nd, 1925, after a long illness.
He was born at Dalry, Ayrshire, N.B., in February, 1861, and on completion of his school education he served his time as apprentice to his father, the manager of the Val de Travers asphalte mines in Switzerland. In 1883 he was appointed sub-manager of the mines and had full charge of all mining operations until early in 1888, when he was transferred to Amsterdam.
In 1890 he was appointed general manager of the Salamanca Tin Co., with which concern he remained for several years. He then returned to Amsterdam to practise as a consulting engineer, and in that capacity visited America, the Dutch East Indies and many parts of Europe. After a visit to Egypt in 1920, he took up his residence in London, still carrying on work until his last illness.
Mr. Walsh was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1892, and was transferred to Membership in 1897.
