Edward Hamilton Tregoning died in London on 23rd November, 1960, at the age of 55.
Mr. Tregoning was a student at the Camborne School of Metalliferous Mining from 1923 to 1926 and gained a first-class Diploma and Associateship of the School and also a first-class certificate in the City and Guilds Examination in mining and ore dressing. After the completion of his technical training he joined Burma Corporation, Ltd., at Bawdwin mine, Upper Burma, and remained in close association with this company throughout his life. Between 1926 and 1942 Mr. Tregoning rose from the position of sampler, through assistant surveyor, chief surveyor, engineer foreman to assistant to the mine superintendent.
In 1942 Mr. Tregoning joined Indian Copper Corporation, Ltd., and worked for three years as mine captain at North Badia mine, Bihar. He re-joined Burma Corporation, Ltd., in 1945 and as acting mine superintendent and later mine superintendent was in charge of the examination and rehabilitation of the Bawdwin mine following its occupation by the Japanese. He was appointed acting general manager in 1949 and general manager in charge of operations in the following year. In 1952, while continuing in that position, he was made a director of the newly formed Burma Corporation (1951), Ltd., serving also for a period as acting chairman on the board of directors. He remained in Burma with the company until 1959, when he retired to England, but continued to act for a short time in a consultative capacity with Burma Mines, Ltd.
Mr. Tregoning was elected a Student of the Institution in 1926, was transferred to Associate Membership in 1933 and to Membership in 1952.
