Fred Lancelot Terrell died in Nigeria from pneumonia on March 25th, 1929, at the age of 45.
From 1899 to 1907 he was employed at the Clitters United Mines, Gunnislake, Cornwall, half the time underground and the other half in the mill and dressing plant. After a period of six months in 1907 working as assayer in the British Mining & Metal Co. Ltd., Calstock, he entered the Camborne School of Mines and went through the course and obtained his diploma in two years instead of the usual three.
On completion of his course he obtained an appointment with the London & Rhodesian Mining & Land Co., Ltd., and worked on various properties, including the Shamva tin claims. In 1912, he went to West Africa as assayer and surveyor for the Wallis Mining Co., Ltd., Gold Coast Colony. He subsequently went to Nigeria, where he was Mongu, Kano, and Bauchi mines respectively.
Mr. Terrell was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1913.
