Joseph William Teale died in April, 1926, following an illness contracted in Kenya Colony.
He was educated in Guernsey, and in 1893 was a Student at the Crystal Palace School of Engineering. He entered the Camborne School of Mines in 1895 and on completion of his course in 1899 went to South Africa, where he had five years’ practical experience on Rand mines before attaining the position of assistant general manager of the Robinson Deep.
In 1905 he was appointed manager of the Porges Randfontein, and South African Lands & Exploration Co., Ltd. The following year, however, he returned to England as manager of the Wheal Merth and Wheal Sisters mines, Cornwall. In 1908 he was admitted to partnership in the well-known firm of Bainbridge, Seymour & Co., with which he was associated until his death.
Mr. Teale was elected a Member of the Institution in 1908.
