Morgan James Tamplin died on 8 March, 1966. He was 68 years of age.
Mr Tamplin was educated at the Royal School of Mines, London, gaining the degree of B.Sc. in Metallurgy in 1922. In September of that year he joined Deloro Smelting and Refining Co., Canada, remaining there until 1929 and being employed as shift chemist, shift foreman and assistant superintendent of the cobalt oxide plant and assistant superintendent of the silver plant. From 1930 to 1941 he worked with Falconbridge Nickel Mines, Ltd., becoming smelter superintendent there.
After the second world war, in which Mr. Tamplin served as a major with the First Canadian Army Staff and as Deputy Controller, Non-Ferrous Metals, Ruhr, he became metallurgical consultant to various companies of the Ventures, Ltd., group. Since 1960 he had worked independently as a consulting metallurgical engineer.
Mr. Tamplin was elected to Student Membership of the Institution in 1920; was transferred to Associate Membership in 1927; and to full Membership in 1939. He was also a member of other professional bodies and societies in the United Kingdom, America and Canada.
