Ernest Gordon Sudlow died in Johannesburg on October 19th, 1918, aged 34 years.
He was educated in Manchester and at the Royal School of Mines, where he obtained the Associateship in the first class in 1906. He was selected for a Post-Graduate course on the Rand, which he took with the New Goch Gold Mining Co. After six months prospecting on his own account in the Hartley district of Southern Rhodesia, he accepted a position with the Brakpan Mines, Ltd., in November, 1908. He was connected with this company for five years, and on his resignation in 1918, had attained to the position of underground manager.
From 1913 to 1915, he was assistant manager to the Consolidated Langlaagte Mines, when he transferred to a similar position on the Government Gold Mining Areas. He was appointed general manager in January, 1917, but about a year later his health began to fail, and from that time there was little hope of his ultimate recovery.
Mr. Sudlow was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1904, and was transferred to Associateship in 1913.
