Vincent Fairfield Shallcross died at Perth, Western Australia, on September 24th, 1932, from peritonitis, at the age of 65.
After receiving his technical education in this country he went to South Africa in 1893, and was employed in the cyanide works, battery and other departments of the City & Suburban Gold Mine, Johannesburg. In 1896 he left the Transvaal for South Australia, where he was for a year in charge of mining operations at the Bird in Hand group of mines, which also included an extensive pumping installation.
Moving to Western Australia, he became general manager of the Australian Mining & Gold Recovery Co., Ltd., the Frasers Gold Mine, Southern Cross, and other companies. Altogether his mining activities in Australia spread over upwards of 20 years of useful and important work, and then he devoted the remainder of his life to farming and forestry, of which he made a pronounced success.
Mr. Shallcross was selected a Member of the Institution in 1902.
