Richard Albert Rusha died in Jersey, Channel Islands, on March 22nd, 1924, aged 70.
He was engaged in practical mining from the early age of 16, and from 1882 to 1885 was a student at the Otago University School of Mines, Dunedin. On completion of his course, he was appointed manager of the Pegasus Tin Mining Co., Invercargill, N.Z., and subsequently consulting engineer and metallurgist to the Sunrise Silver & Lead Mining Co., and the Broken Hill Smelting Co., of Zeehan, Tasmania.
In 1889 he went to Australia, first to New South Wales and afterwards to Western Australia, where for upwards of ten years he was general manager of the Greenbushes mines and other concerns.
In 1902 he went to West Africa to take up an appointment as general manager of the Akinta gold mines, Abosso, Ivory Coast, five years later transferring to Haute Guinée. His next work was with the Amalgamated Tin Properties of Nigeria, and then followed a few years spent in the Republic of Colombia. After returning to Nigeria for a short period, he came to England, and finally settled down in the Channel Islands.
Mr. Rusha was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1903.
