Frederick William Rudler, I.S.O., died at his residence at Tatsfield, Surrey, on January 29th, 1915, aged 75 years.
From 1861 to 1876 he was Assistant Curator of the Museum of Practical Geology, and from 1876 to 1879 occupied the position of Professor of Natural Science at the University College of Wales. He then returned to his former sphere of labour, the Museum of Practical Geology, as Curator, where he remained until his retirement in 1902.
From 1879 to 1880 he was also Registrar of the Royal School of Mines, London. Professor Rudler was a ‘Lyell Medallist’ of the Geological Society, and his manifold literary activities included the
Assistant Editorship of ‘Ure’s Dictionary of Arts’ (7th Edition), contributions on mineralogical subjects to the ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica’ (9th Edition), ‘Thorpe’s Dictionary of Applied Chemistry,’ etc.
Professor Rudler was elected any Honorary Member of the Institution in 1901.
