Francis Tom Roskrow died on 18th March, 1957, in Truro, Cornwall, at the age of 75.
Mr. Roskrow was a student at the Redruth School of Mines between 1903 and 1905, and took his first appointment as surveyor at Wheal Kitty mines, St. Agnes. Later in 1905 he lectured at the School of Mines, Redruth, then left England for India. He worked at Ooregum gold mines, Mysore State, until 1911, first as assistant underground agent and from 1908 as chief surveyor and assistant underground agent.
In 1912 Mr. Roskrow took employment with Messrs. Mason and Barry as chief assistant to the mine manager at Mina de San Domingos, Portugal. During the first world war he served with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, and returned to Mina de San Domingos in 1919, after a few months being promoted chief of the mining department. Six years later, in 1925, he was appointed general manager of Mina de San Domingos, in succession to Mr. F.J. Rich, and held this position until 1935 when he returned from Portugal to live in Cornwall.
Mr. Roskrow held a number of directorships, having been on the board of Pengkalen, Ltd., since 1941; of Kent (F.M.S.) Tin Dredging, Ltd., since 1946, of Gopeng Consolidated, Ltd., since 1947, and of Rambutan, Ltd., since 1949.
Mr. Roskrow was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1911 and was transferred to Membership in 1928. From 1952 until his death he had represented the Institution on the governing body of the Camborne School of Metalliferous Mining.
