William John Rogers died on 7th May, 1947, at the age of 51 after a brief illness.
He received his professional training at the Redruth School of Mines, Cornwall, from 1911 to 1913, and in July 1913, was appointed surveyor and assistant engineer to the Zalamea Copper Co., Ltd., Huelva, Spain. He left on 31st January, 1915, to enter the service of the Rio Tinto Co., Ltd., Spain, and hold the position of surveyor until 1918, when he became assistant mine superintendent. He remained with the company for 26 yours, rising to the position of chief of one of their underground departments.
In 1941 Mr. Rogers returned to England and was employed in Cornwall for about twelve months with Non-ferrous Minerals Development, Ltd., and subsequently accepted a post with the Ministry of Fuel and Power, where he remained until a month before his death.
Mr. Rogers was elected to Studentship of the Institution in 1916 and was transferred to Associateship in 1922.
