Reginald William Robinson was killed in action at the Dardanelles on August 15th, 1915, whilst serving as Captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
He obtained the Associateship of the Royal School of Mines in mining in 1902, and went to South Africa at the beginning of the following year as assistant surveyor on the Rietfontein ‘A’ Gold Mines. From the end of 1903 until the beginning of 1905 he was engaged with the Coronation Syndicate at Vlakfontein, for the first three months as additional surveyor and afterwards as chief surveyor. He then went to the Roodepoort Gold Mines as head surveyor and remained in that position until 1906.
From that time till 1918 he was in the employ of Messrs. Farrar Bros., and was engaged as surveyor and underground manager on mines in Rhodesia and in reporting on gold and tin mines there and in the Transvaal, with the exception of a brief visit to England in 1910. In the spring of 1913 he returned home and was engaged for some time in London until, shortly after the outbreak of war, he obtained a commission, in H.M. Forces.
Mr. Robinson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1905.
