John Robert Robinson died at Petrograd in April, 1918.
He was educated in New Zealand and worked for several years on the gold mines of the Auckland district as assayer, mill manager and metallurgist. In 1898 he went to Australia, and after two short engagements in New South Wales and Queensland and a further engagement of about a year at Coolgardie, he spent more than two years as mill and cyanide superintendent to the Childe Harold Gold Mining Co., Mount Morgans, Western Australia. From 1908 to 1907 he was in Rhodesia where he held posts under the British Central Africa Company, Ltd. and Campbell’s Zambesi Minerals Co., Ltd.
He came to England in 1908 and remained for several years in this country, making his headquarters at Clement’s Inn, London, W.C. About the year 1911, he spent some months at Ekaterinberg in Russia on professional business. In 1917 he undertook work in Finland in connection with the geological commission which was operating under the direction of Professor J.J. Sederholm, and he proceeded to Helsingfors in August of that year. Subsequently his duties took him to Petrograd, where he died, as mentioned above.
Mr. Robinson was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1908.
