George Jewell Roberts was killed in action near Ypres on June 17th, 1916, whilst serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. He was 27 years of age, and was a student of the Camborne School of Mines where he took a three years’ course, from 1906 to 1909.
Upon the completion of his training he went to Spain, and for about a year held an appointment with the Cerro Muriano Mines, Ltd., in the Province of Cordoba. In 1911 he went to Egypt, and was in the employ of the Barramia. Mining and Exploration Co., Ltd., Edfou, Upper Egypt, for nearly two years.
He had been in Minnesota for a few months when the war broke out and led to his giving up his work and hastening home to join ELM. Forces.
Mr; Roberts was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1909.
