Samuel Kenneth Rix died at the Globe & Phoenix Mine, Southern Rhodesia, on September 20th, 1931, at the age of 47.
He received his technical training at the Camborne School of Mines, Cornwall, and in September, 1906, obtained an appointment as surveyor and general assistant to the manager of the Chain Copper Development Syndicate, Ltd., Co. Cork, Ireland. In 1908 he returned to Cornwall, where he worked in various capacities on the South Crofty and other mines.
In June, 1910, he went to South Africa as sampler on the Phoenix mine of the Globe & Phoenix Gold Mining Co., Ltd., in Southern Rhodesia, and he remained in the employment of that company for the remainder of his life in various capacities, from 1924 onwards being technical manager.
Mr. Rix was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1925.
