Harry Mackenzie Ridge died at his home in London on August 4th, 1943, at the age of 70.
He received his technical training at Freiberg, Saxony, where he graduated as mining engineer and surveyor, and in 1899 went to Australia to take up a post at the Works of the Australian Metal Co., Ltd., Broken Hill, where he became manager.
In 1905 he returned to England as general manager of the zinc smelting works of the Central Zinc Co., Ltd., at Seaton Carew, Co. Durham. In 1909 he resigned this position to set up in practice as consulting mining and metallurgical engineer in London, and remained actively engaged in his profession until his death. He travelled widely in Europe, Australia, and South Africa, and founded the Ridge Roasting Furnace and Engineering Co.
Mr. Ridge was elected a Member of the Institution in 1905.
