Nevin Cecil Reed died in Kingston, Jamaica, on 27th November, 1950, at the age of 43.
He was educated at the Imperial Service College, Windsor, and in 1923 went to South America as a general apprentice” at the Frontino and Bolivia gold mines at La Salada, Colombia, where his father, the late John Reed, M.I.M.M., was general superintendent.
After three years he returned to England in 1926 to enter the School of Metalliferous Mining Cornwall), and on obtaining his diploma in 1929 took up the position of underground assistant at Rio Tinto Co., Ltd., Spain. He left Spain in 1931 to join Taquah and Abosso Gold Mines, Ltd., Gold Coast, and in 1934 returned to South America as assistant underground manager of the Silencio mine of Frontino Gold Mines, Ltd., shortly afterwards becoming underground manager.
Mr. Reed continued in this post until 1947 when ill health obliged him to take up residence in the Adirondack Mountains of North America, and in 1948 he moved to Jamaica.
He was elected to Studentship of the Institution in 1929 and to Associateship in 1937.
