James Charles Pryor died at Montreal, Canada, in February, 1919.
He was a native of Swansea, S. Wales, and in about 1884 he entered the service of the Morfa Copper Works in that city, with whom he remained for nearly 25 years. For the first 12 months he was employed in the copper electro-depositing department, this being followed by four years as laboratory assistant in the silver works.
A further period of about 2½ years was occupied as works’ chemist to the technical manager, with charge of the copper sulphate plant. A short term spent as assistant to the head chemist was the preliminary to being appointed head of that department, a position which he held for about 16 years. For a considerable portion of that time he also acted as deputy to the technical manager of the works, during the whole period being in constant touch with smelting and refining operations and furnace construction. In 1908 he went to Canada to take up the position of chemist and metallurgist with the firm of G.T. Donald & Sons, of Montreal, and remained there until his death.
Mr. Pryor was elected a Member of the Institution in 1903.
