Frank Remington Pretyman was killed in action on July 4th, 1917, whilst serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. He was 26 years of age, and had held his commission in the R.E. for more than two years.
He was educated at Marlborough College and the Royal School of Mines, which he left in 1911 and proceeded to America, where, for the space of about a year, he was engaged in practical work in Alberta and in the New England States. Returning home in 1913, he resumed his studies at the Royal School of
Mines and remained there until shortly after the outbreak of the War.
Mr. Pretyman was admitted to Studentship of the Institution in 1908.
